12/27 Health & Wellness Tip – Set the Table

I don’t remember when I bought this book; it has been a while. I started into it, didn’t get far, and then set it aside on my book shelf.

Recently, when I was getting ready to head out of town, I was perusing my book shelves to decide which book(s) to bring with me.

Well, this book spoke to me so I grabbed it. The book – “Eat That Frog: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time” by Brian Tracy – is an easy read and I am glad I took it on this trip! The first chapter, “Set the Table,” spoke to me since we are about to wrap up 2015 and start 2016. You know, everyone creates goals (aka New Years Resolutions) to accomplish in the new year. So often we create these goals and don’t create a plan to achieve them.

Chapter 1 – “Set the Table” – states that this seven step formula can help you set and achieve your goals. So, let’s “set the table” by creating a foundation for your 2016 goals:

  • Step 1: Decide exactly what you want – Take the time to figure out exactly what your goal is
  • Step 2: Write it down – Using paper and pen helps you to clarify your goal, as well as makes it more tangible
  • Step 3: Set a deadline on your goal – There is no urgency to accomplish your goal when there is no deadline tied to it
  • Step 4: Make a list of everything that you can think of that you are going to have to do to achieve your goal – This will be a fluid list that you continue to add to and remove from
  • Step 5: Organize the list into a plan – Determine the priority to work your “list of everything to be done”
  • Step 6: Take action on your plan immediately – Do something; execution is key
  • Step 7: Resolve to do something every single day that moves you toward your major goal – Schedule time daily to do something on your list

I enjoyed this book and I believe the timing for my reading it was fate. I will implement some of the methods outlined in this book as we proceed into 2016. I highly encourage you to get it from the library or buy a copy (used is always a great way to go). It provides many ideas for reducing procrastination in your life. As step 6 says, take action, do it now!

As we head into the new year and you set your goals, what works best for you to ensure you accomplish your goals each year?
