That Dreaded Cold

Have you been hit yet? That dreaded cold that has been going around for a while now and it just doesn’t want to go away. It touches as many people as it possibly can.

I was struck as we rang in the New Year. When I spoke with a friend of mine on New Year’s Day, she told me that several people she knew were struck the week prior. It is still here as another friend of mine has just been struck.

If you are like me, you pull out an arsenal of weapons to regain your health. My normally tidy bathroom counter becomes cluttered with various bottles so my arsenal is at my fingertips.

I have to admit, I wasn’t sure whether I had a cold, allergies, a sinus infection, or a combination of some or all of these. So, I fought all of them just to be safe. These were my combat treatments.

Emergence – When I’m not feeling well, I use Emergence for two purposes. (1) Each packet has 1000 mg of Vitamin C to boost my immune system. (2) It helps with dehydration and replenishing electrolytes.

Oil of Oregano – I feel like I’m drinking marinara, minus the tomatoes. This is potent stuff. I add it to the Emergence so I hardly notice the taste. I drink the Emergence and Oregano combination throughout the day (anywhere from 3-6 times).

Neti Pot – This is a savior for me during allergy season and/or anytime I think a sinus infection is heading my way. Ideally, I like to do it 3 times each day with a cold, allergies, or sinus infection, although I end up doing it only once or twice. I would love to make this part of my daily routine, it just doesn’t happen.

Zinc Cough Drops – They say these are most beneficial when you notice the first signs of a cold. Even beyond those first couple days, I use them when I think of it. That tends to be at night as I’m heading to bed. Regardless, I figure some is better than none.

Tea/Warm Drinks – I increase the amount of tea I drink. I’ll start the day with some hot water with lemon, ginger, turmeric, and orange. I’ll have green tea and herbal teas, like Immune Boost and Nourish Me (I buy these at Desert Sage Herbs), throughout the day. I’ll end the day with some Chamomile to help me sleep.

Whew. My counter is clean again as I’m back to my healthy self. My arsenal is always stocked. This is what works for me.
